Barcelona

Barcelona is the capital of Cataluña , a northeast region in Spain , the ranking of most expensive cities in the world.

» Places to sleep

Renting a house with 2 bedrooms costs between 700 and 1000 euros per month depending of the conservation of the house and the house location , etc…; each bedroom costs between 350 to 500 euros per month.

If you want to spend a night in a 4 stars hotel you´ll have to paid about 80 to 100 euros per night. If 100€ is expensive for you, Barcelona is a town full of hostels that are cheaper than the hotels where you can have a good night of sleep for 30 euros or less.

» Food and beverage

If you have a big budget you can go to more expensive restaurants where you can eat great tapas or another traditional Spanish plate for 50 euros with a tendency is to get more and more expensive according to the class of the restaurant.

On the other hand if you don’t have a big budget don’t get sad because in Barcelona you can eat a great meal for no more than 12 euros , particularly the traditional food ,tapas, that are very tasty and are not expensive.

Now the good part , the beer in Barcelona is like drugs in Columbia good and cheap . a beer in bar costs between 1 and 3 euros depending on the class of the establishment , but you can buy a beer to a “paki” on the street for 1 euro.

» Supermarket

With 250 euros you can buy food and beverage for a month without many luxuries .I leave here same eg. of prices :1 kg of rice 1,50 ;1kg of spaghetti 1,10 ; 1,5 l of water 0,20 ;6l of milk 4,75.

» Transportation

Barcelona´s transport are very well equipped , metro , bus , and train all cost 1,30 euro per ticket per ride .

The taxi´s ride starts at 3 euros and growth very fast so the best option is the metro that is safe quick and secure, at Saturday is open all day so you can go home and cure your hang over .

» Night

In Barcelona most of the clubs don’t make a distinction between guys and girls so all paid the same thing ,the prices vary between 15 , 12 , 10 euros all with 1 or 2 drinks included , some clubs don’t charge anything .

» Clothing and accessories

Clothes and accessories are cheaper in Spain compared to France Italy UK and so on .

»Fly to Barcelona

Barcelona has two airports both with low cost prices.

Barcelona airport that is 20 minutes away from the city with aero bus and train direct to the city.

And Girona airport Barcelona , a low cost airport 1 hour away from Barcelona , it´s not near Barcelona but is cheap , a great reason for a student to choose this airport ,this airport also have good transports to Barcelona.

With 1000 euros per month you can have a good life in Barcelona but not with many luxuries, if you rent a house with one room , eat at home , use public transports , rests between 200 to 300 euros for pleasure .

Hi, Nice Hub...

I am planning to go to Barcelona to study for one year. Is it possible to survive there with 500~600 Euros a month? I know rent costs alot, what if I rent a place in suburb outside Barcelona?

Your answer is appreciated :)

It would not be too difficult to survive with this money if u consider these aspects:

1. Share the room with a friend which costs you around 175 euros in relatively cheaper areas. Question is how you choose the friend to share the apartment.

2. Cook and eat at home: If you are not choosy for food, you can manage this within Euros 175 per month (U wont have many luxuries)

3. Transportation (You will need to travel to University as u will be staying awawy from this to avoid high cost. So, expect to pay around at least 75 euros per month.

4. Household expenses: Other costs of house for you will be around 75 euros per month.

Above costs equal 500. You can have extra 100 euro for contingency.
